The importance of being grammatically correct

Look at the title of this blog: have you noticed the strange spelling? I tell you: it was on purpose. Regarding these purposes you will have to read another entry...

But regardless of spelling, it is still understandable. What if there is a grammar mistake in the text here and/or there? To put it in another way: is it a must to learn proper grammar? Is it not enough to remember and use the basics?

Well, if you remember and use the basics, you will not find it difficult to do the same with a higher level grammar. It gives you an entry to:

  • another style
  • deeper understanding of the real message of the text you are working with
  • the opportunity to share your ideas and feelings without creating misunderstandings.

Let's see how well you master it. Can you find the proper articles in the marked spaces (if any articles are needed at all)? Answers in the comments field please.

Dressed to kill

All right, you should not kill anyone int he very first meeting. Still, if you want to make a good – that is: long lasting – impression, your garment should be chosen quite carefully.

There are more aspects to be taken into account than you think. It is like in a folk tale: it should be comfortable but not too casual (even if you are applying for a cleaner’s job), elegant but not the most expensive latest fashion (expecting you are invited to a ball in the Opera)…

This Hungarian lady shows you how to get dressed elegantly and comfortably every day.

Here you can get the latest fashion news if that is what you need for your environment.

Fashion experts give you loads of advice on what you should wear daily.

Of course you also have to consider the matching accessories.

You do not have to turn to a stylist to dress you up for the big occassion. However, they have some useful ideas on dos and donts of clothing.

A good shake

source: Morguefile
While you are telling your name and job during an introduction, you usually have an opportunity for a handshake.

Talking about body language is a much more extensive topic to cover than spoken language. The former seems to be internationally applicable as it does not use misunderstandable words. Still, it is maybe more culture dependent than spoken language.

The British are thought of as quite isolated people - and they really are. This is how a Russian blogger sees them. Click here to read more about the British etiquette of handshaking.

Austrian people however like shaking hands in the morning when they meet or even when they leave the meeting. What's more, children shake hands with their teachers before they start the lesson.

In Russia however, men don't prefer to shake hands with ladies. This link tells you more about his.

What's in a name?

When we introduce ourselves, the main message is our name and activity. The aim of sharing this information is twofold. First of all we would like the others to identify us. Secondly, though this is as important as the first goal, we want them to remember us.

There are quite many experts who focus on the best way of telling your name:

  • on this page a Hungarian lady shares her international experties on this topic
  • this page provides useful tipps especially for busienss people
  • and here you can read about introduction in a job interview

Introducing ourselves has many further aspects which are not less significant than this one. They will be dealt with in the coming blog entries.
